What Americans Fear

By David Bozeman –

According to Atlanta Journal & Constitution columnist Cynthia Tucker, Democrats will likely lose big in November because of “the elephant in the room” nobody’s talking about, that being “race, changing demographics, fear of a white minority.”

Liberals typically pull ‘racism’ out of their worn playbooks and expect to pass it off as intellectual engagement. Deluding themselves that they are the analytical ones among us, their tripe is impressing no one except maybe each other. And by the way, race is about all that liberals DO talk about!

Conservatives, Republicans, Tea Party activists and patriotic Americans in general have responded enthusiastically to the leadership and examples of Justice Clarence Thomas, Condoleeza Rice, Alan Keyes, Michael Steele, J.C. Watts, Herman Cain (former head of Godfather’s Pizza) and others. Popular pundits/authors include Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Larry Elder, Star Parker, Ken Hamblin, etc. Americans of various ethnic and national backgrounds comprise the list of elected officials and candidates, so, nice try, Cynthia.

If you want to know what is scaring the American people, the answer, in one word, is liberalism, the naked display of which has dominated national discourse for the past two years. Still, the Obama administration is only the culmination of a steady, some would argue deliberate, erosion of a distinct American culture founded upon the moral imperative of individual liberty.

Typically, the left shies away from any bold claims to moral or nationalistic superiority — in an enlightened, relativistic age, aren’t all cultures and societies more or less equal? A great nation seldom falls in one dramatic flash but rather erodes gradually, the toxic effects of self-doubt and negation seldom even diagnosed till it stands on the brink of collapse.

It is not the decline of a white majority Americans fear, it is the decline of an AMERICAN majority. It is the loss of America itself to a behemoth federal budget and entitlement mentality that could render us no more vital on the world stage than, say, Greece. Are their recent riots a portent of things to come here? Only rarely does President Obama come close to stressing American exceptionalism or the can-do potential of individual initiative made famous by Teddy Roosevelt, JFK, Ronald Reagan, among others.

Liberalism, by its very nature, favors the collective over the individual, assigning citizens to groups, and even conservatives will tout policies that favor the ‘middle-class,’ forgetting that even for the most humble, self-reliant citizen, the identifier ‘American’ will do nicely.

Our culture rarely calls for Americans to act but rather to REACT. We have been told how to handle economic malaise and various other threats to our way of life but are rarely reminded of our unlimited potentials. Globalists and radical environmentalists nix our better natures, reminding us frequently what a blight our way of life is to Mother Earth. In truth, Americans, traditionally, are not motivated by fear, they just hunger for leaders of any color or background who embrace American culture and traditions as the cradles of individual liberty and achievement. America at its best is not xenophobic or arrogant, either, because we seek freedom not just for ourselves but as a beacon for the world.
