On the heels of the cancellation of Dr. Seuss, a New York Times columnist is taking aim at Pepe le Pew. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. The Looney Tunes cartoon skunk who was popular when I was a kid was always pursuing a cat that looked like a skunk. Times columnist Charles M. Blow took to twitter claiming the skunk normalized rape culture.” After blowback, Blow took to Twitter to say – quote right-Le Pew grabs/kisses a girl/stranger, repeatedly, without consent and against her will. She struggles mightily to get away from him, but he won’t release her. He locks a door to prevent her from escaping. In 2018, author Richard Wright made the claim that watching Lew Pew – quote – merrily bouncing towards a terrified female black cat who had the misfortune of somehow getting a white stripe painted along her back – provided a cue that normalized rape culture and patriarchy. Not the message I got from the cartoon — what about you? For more check us out at the Daily Torch.com
