Thanks to President Donald Trump’s commitment to securing the U.S.-Mexico border and finding and deporting illegal aliens form the United States, the southern border is more secure than it has ever been, and homicides are on track to reach the lowest number on record since 1900. This is a huge reversal of previously accelerating crime in the modern era.
According to a detailed analysis of crime statistics from the Council on Criminal Justice released last month, crime rates during President Donald Trump’s first year in office plummeted as the president executed mass deportation of illegal criminals and secured the southern border.
The report shows a staggering reversal of crime across multiple categories, with massive double-digit declines in the rates of homicides, gun assaults, robberies, and car jackings in 2025 compared to the same numbers in 2024.
According to the report, the rate of homicides was 21 percent lower in 2025 compared to 2024 in the 35 cities providing homicide data for the study. This represents 922 fewer homicides in 2025, or close to 1,000 fewer individuals whose lives were lost to homicide during President Trump’ s first year in office.
In total, crime fell across 11 of the 13 marked criminal categories compared to 2024 and nine of the categories fell by 10 percent or more.
Crime fell by nine percent for aggravated assault and two percent for domestic violence according to the data. The largest decline in crime occurred for robberies, which fell by 23 percent, and car jackings which fell by a staggering 43 percent. One category, drug crimes, increased by seven percent and sexual assault remained even.
The report concludes that based on estimates for crime across all jurisdiction sizes — expected to be completed and reported by the FBI later this year — the homicide rate is on track to fall to 4.0 per 100,000 Americans, the lowest rate ever recorded by law enforcement going back to 1900 when governments began tracking this data.
In Minneapolis, where the Trump Administration deployed over 2,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to ferret out a Somali fraud ring reported to have cost taxpayers an estimated $9 billion dollars as well as to arrest and deport criminals convicted of crimes like drug trafficking and assault, crime has fallen significantly.
According to data from the City of Minneapolis crime was down across major categories including homicide, vehicle theft and carjackings in 2025 compared to the previous year. Crime tends to fall in the winter months according to the city’s statistics but comparing the month of July in 2025 to July in 2024, the pattern becomes clear. Homicides were 30 percent lower in July 2025 than they were in July 2024. Vehicle thefts were 29 percent lower, and carjackings were 33 percent lower.
In Chicago, a similar trend occurs, with violent crime falling compared to 2024 across all crime categories, according to data from the Chicago Police Department.
Democrats in sanctuary cities have continuously villainized the Trump Administration for implementing the mass deportation of illegal immigrants that President Donald Trump was elected by the American people to execute. Now, one year into the president’s term, crime across major U.S. cities is plummeting — particularly crime that leads to the loss of human life and property. The Trump Administration has been able to turn homicide numbers back to levels not seen in the modern era in a single year. With numbers like these the United States may be able to reverse what felt like a seemingly inevitable descent into more criminal activity and create a safer society for the next generation.
