The People’s House

Speaker Boehner

As John Boehner is elected Speaker of the House today, here is a preview of the speech he will give upon receiving the gavel this afternoon:

“They have reminded us that everything here is on loan from them. That includes this gavel, which I accept cheerfully and gratefully, knowing I am but its caretaker. After all, this is the people’s House. This is their Congress. It’s about them, not us. What they want is a government that is honest, accountable and responsive to their needs. A government that respects individual liberty, honors our heritage, and bows before the public it serves.”

“No longer can we kick the can down the road. The people voted to end business as usual, and today we begin carrying out their instructions.”

This is good rhetoric, but rhetoric is not enough. Action is what is needed. We must hold the new House Republicans accountable if we hope to see the action that follows up this rhetoric. The first battle has been won, but the war still goes on.

We wish Speaker Boehner the best of luck in a uphill battle against Big Government.
