House Approves Legislation To Postpone Government Shutdown Until March 18

The House voted 335-91 to approve legislation that would continue funding the federal government through March 18, and would prevent a shutdown in the short-term. But for the shutdown to be totally prevented this week, the Senate would have to approve this legislation before March 5.

Six House Republicans voted against the measure:

Rep. Amash – Michigan

Rep. Bachmann – Minnesotta

Rep. Gohmert – Texas

Rep. Jones – North Carolina

Rep. King – Iowa

Rep. Paul – Texas

Also voting against the measure was Nancy Pelosi.

The measure that was passed to fund the government through March 18 cut $4 billion in spending. These cuts were already supported by Obama.

The Senate now has 48 hours to approve to avoid the federal government “shutting down in name only.”
