Americans Call For Election Integrity Even As Supreme Court Allows States To Count Post-Deadline Ballots

By Manzanita Miller

In light of the Supreme Court’s controversial decision to allow states to continue to count mail-in ballots that arrive in the days following Election Day, President Donald Trump is pushing for Sente Republicans to pass the SAVE America Act, legislation designed to greatly enhance election integrity.

The Supreme Court handed down a 5-4 decision on June 29 that will allow states to continue their dubious practice of counting mail-in ballots in the days following Election Day, despite widespread concerns about election integrity. The ruling allows 30 states that allow absentee ballots to be counted in the days and sometimes weeks after an election to continue that practice, as recently occurred in the California Gubernatorial race which saw tens of thousands of absentee ballots pour in after Election Day.

Following the Court’s decision, President Trump stated in a fiery Truth Socal post that it is more important than ever for Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, a piece of legislation that addresses the root cause of voter fraud by ensuring voters are U.S. citizens and maintaining up-to-date voter records.

“In light of the tremendous loss in the Supreme Court today concerning Voter’s Rights, and the fact that ‘people’s’ votes are allowed to be counted LONG AFTER an Election is over, it is more important than ever to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social after the ruling.

The SAVE America Act, which passed the U.S. House of representatives in February, directly challenges illegal voting by implementing three key changes to protect election integrity. First, the act amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to insist Americans provide proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Second, the act demands individuals present a government-issued photo ID when casting a ballot in federal elections. Last, the act calls for states to establish regular purges of non-citizens on voter registration lists.

Polling consistently shows this three-pronged approach to secure elections amasses broad support from voters with a majority of Republicans and independents supporting the legislation, while Democrats and progressives largely oppose it.

A Cygnal survey from June 30-July 1 of 1,000 likely general election voters finds that despite months of mainstream media coverage disparaging the SAVE Act, 57 percent of likely voters support the legislation, essentially unchanged from March of this year.

Traditional Republicans support the SAVE Act by a margin of 86 percentage points, 91 percent to five percent while independent-leaning Republicans support it by 84 points, 92 percent to eight percent, the survey shows. Pure independents narrowly support the legislation by five points, 49 percent to 33 percent.

Key groups of swing voters also support the election integrity legislation, despite a propaganda campaign aimed at ending support. Latinos support the SAVE Act by nine points, 54 percent to 45 percent, a three-point increase since March. Women under the age of 55 support the legislation by seven points, 51 percent to 44 percent, a seven-point increase since March. Suburban voters support the legislation by fourteen points, 55 percent to 41 percent, essentially unchanged since March.

While progressive Democrats oppose the election integrity protections in the SAVE Act by 59 points, 77 percent to 18 percent, a sizable share of traditional Democrats support the legislation. Among traditional Democrats, 36 percent support the SAVE Act while 55 percent oppose it.

Despite the aggressive campaign against the SAVE Act from interests that benefit from unchecked voting, the core pillars of the legislation have received broad support from voters since the debacle of the 2020 election.

A 2025 Pew Research Center survey found a full 83 percent of Americans support voter ID requirements, including over three-quarters of Black, White, Hispanic and Asian Americans.

A 2024 Gallup survey found 84 percent of voters support a voter ID requirement, including 98 percent of Republicans, 84 percent of independents, and 67 percent of Democrats. The survey also revealed 83 percent of Americans support a proof of citizenship requirement for voter registration.

Election integrity is an essential pillar of the Trump Administration’s policy agenda because the individuals allowed to vote in the United States are shaping policy on everything else, from immigration to taxes and domestic spending. Those individuals should at minimum be U.S. citizens with a vested interest in the long-term health of the country.

The three primary pillars of the SAVE Act — proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, proof of ID to vote, and requiring states to purge illegals from voter rolls — are rational protections that should have been enacted years ago. When the legislation is put to the people, voters overwhelmingly support these pro-American reforms. Time and again, whether it is the national debacle of the 2020 election with critical swing states left counting hundreds of thousands of ballots that arrived in bulk after the deadline or the recent California gubernatorial election issue, the need for election reform keeps surfacing.
