Following the indictment, former President Donald Trump improved his lead on his closest rival, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination in the latest CBS News-YouGov poll taken June 7 to June 10, now leading by 61 percent to 23 percent. The crosstabs are fascinating. Among Republican primary voters, 40 percent said the indictment made them more likely to vote for Trump, compared to 4 percent who said it made them less likely to support him. 60 percent said the indictment made no difference whatsoever, in a poll where he leads by 38 points. That included a spread of 41 percent of independents who said it made them more likely to support Trump, compared to just 2 percent who said it made them less likely. This might be a confounding outcome to Trump’s opponents, not just inside the GOP, but also in the White House and among Democrats in Congress. And yet, it’s the predictable outcome for anyone outside of the Washington, D.C. Beltway.

The latest indictment against former President Donald Trump is earning a collective – ehh – from millions of Americans — it’s not that we don’t support law and order — because we do. It’s because we’ve literally lost count of how many times the former president has been indicted or impeached. I can think of no greater responsibility than that of protecting our national secrets and national security. And certainly no one is above the law. But I want to share 3 video clips with you that illustrate why this latest Trump indictment lacks a sense of urgency – – dare I say, gravitas?

First — Special Counsel Jack Smith gave a short statement this afternoon about the indictment — it’s a serious statement about serious allegations — we’ll compare that to former FBI head James’ Comey’s reckless — perhaps political decision — not to seek a similar indictment against Hillary Clinton for similarly mishandling of classified information.

It’s important that we not forget how differently Trump and Hillary have been treated — and finally — you’ll want to stay for this — New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununnu was on with Jen Psaki of MSNBC talking about the Trump indictment — he doesn’t think it will have any impact on the presidential race.

The CNN implosion. There is so much to unpack here. This week the head of CNN, Chris Licht – was fired after less than one year on the job — everyone is speculating about what led to his downfall — and in a larger sense — the CNN ratings disaster.

Among the many problems at the network — I want to focus on the big three:
Number One – an epic PR fail by Licht and his communications team. Number two – the Donald Trump Townhall — Number three – systemic Left wing bias at the network among news producers, reporters and anchors.

Remember when the CDC was the gold standard for science-when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was among the most respected government agencies — when we could trust it to produce accurate scientific and medical advisories free of political influence or bias? Yeah– so do I — because it was only a few years ago. But then the pandemic happened — and everything changed. The CDC became political – taking its cues from – who else – the powerful teacher’s unions.
Newly-released text messages between the head of one of the nation’s most powerful unions — Randi Weingarten and the head of the CDC – Rochelle Walensky are – should I say shocking? Or maybe not — the texts show a chummy relationship that led to a watering down of CDC guidelines to schools about reopening for in-person learning in February 2021.
