Kagen fails to disclose that his biggest donor is retained by BP

By Adam Bitely –

Congressman Steve Kagen (D-WI) failed to disclose his relationship with Wilmerhale Llp, which has been retained by BP as part of their legal team for the oil spill. Interestingly, Kagen sponsored legislation, the “Oil Spill Responsibility Act of 2010“, to establish a $20 billion escrow account funded by BP to handle claims from the disaster.

In the incestuous swamp of Washington D.C., Kagen takes credit for forcing BP to take credibility for the disaster. What Kagen doesn’t disclose is that his biggest donor stands to gain through representing BP in the wake of his legislation.

Here is the top 5 donors to Kagen, notice the #1 donor:

Rank  ↓ Contributor  ↓ Total  ↓ Indivs  ↓ PACs  ↓
1 Wilmerhale Llp $22,250 $22,250 $0
2 Laborers Union $11,000 $0 $11,000
3 American College of Cardiology $10,000 $0 $10,000
3 American Dental Assn $10,000 $0 $10,000
3 American Fedn of St/Cnty/Munic Employees $10,000 $0 $10,000
