Hold House Republicans Accountable to Cut Spending!

Tomorrow, House Republicans are expected to drop legislation that will attach about $56 billion of spending cuts to the budget continuing resolution.  The current continuing resolution expires on March 4th.

While this is a step in the right direction, this falls short of the House Republican pledge to “roll back government spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels, saving us at least $100 billion in the first year alone and putting us on a path to balance the budget and pay down the debt.”

In November, the American people sent House Republicans back into the majority largely on the premise that they would bring order to the nation’s fiscal house.  Unfortunately, voters will have a harder time believing that if they do not stick with their pledge of at least $100 billion of cuts.

House Republicans cannot afford to dispirit the voters that sent them back into power.  They lost control in 2006 because they spent too much and lost touch with their political base of support, and we need to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

So, let’s hold members accountable to their pledge, get on CapWiz, and urge them to cut the full $100 billion they promised.  It’s as simple as that.  They made a promise, so now they need to keep it.
