Hillary Clinton was clearly mistaken on a lot of issues—a lot of issues.
But one area where she hit the nail on the head was with her interpretation former political rival’s hypocritical demeanor. After Barack Obama effectively put his foot in his mouth over him comments regarding “bitter” small-town Americans last April, Mrs. Clinton immediately lashed out at the senator calling him to task for being “elitist” and “divisive.”
And she couldn’t have been more right. Mr. Obama’s elitism, as pointedly heralded by Mrs. Clinton, has been an ever-present specter throughout the campaign, haunting him almost as closely as the anti-American racist rants of Reverend Wright or troubling terrorist history of Bill Ayers.
The elitism issue has flared up again in recent news, this time regarding the Mr. Obama’s personal mortgage loans. Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, has recently announced that they have filed multiple complaints with the Federal Election Commission and the U.S. Senate Ethics Committee against the Illinois Senator.
The issue? Allegations that Barack Obama knowingly accepted a below-market rate mortgage loan—not available to the average consumer—back in 2005.
In Judicial Watch’s own words:
“It appears that due to his position as a United States Senator, Barack Obama received improper special treatment from Northern Trust resulting in an illicit ‘gift’ which has a value of almost $125,000 in interest savings…Judicial Watch therefore respectfully requests a full investigation into whether the special Northern Trust mortgage received by Senator Barack Obama constitutes a gift that is prohibited by Senate ethics rules.”
In addition to the special below-market “super super jumbo” loan, the complaint goes on to mention that Northern Trust has actively supported Mr. Obama’s political campaigns dating back to 1990. Northern Trust employees as a whole have given a total of $71,000 to the Senator.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, had the following to say:
“Americans ought to be suspicious when a United States Senator such as Barack Obama, obtains a sweetheart mortgage deal…We have serious concerns that Senator Obama’s mortgage may have violated the law and Senate ethics rules.”
Corruption stories are certainly nothing new. Consider the similar scandal which recently befell Senator Christopher Dodd just a few weeks ago.
The difference with this most recent case, however, is that Senator Barack Obama is aspiring to be the president of the United States. And, to make matters worse, he is running a campaign centered upon the erroneous assumption that he is a “candidate of change”, a non-partisan unifier whose aim is to look out for the little guys.
The truth is this: Barack Obama has nothing to do with “change.” He is a cookie-cutter politician first and foremost whose principle aim is to serve himself. This has been most recently illustrated by his relationship with Northern Trust.
Hopefully by November the American people will recognize the real Barack Obama.
Hillary Clinton certainly seemed to.
