Good Thursday Afternoon –
The White House admits to offering a job to Romanoff. However, the offer was apparently made to Romanoff after he applied for one about 9 months before receiving a call from White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina. This comes on the heels of the White House offering an internship to Joe Sestak.
The Sestak case is unraveling the rule of law. As stated in “18 U.S.C. § 600 clearly states that “Whoever, directly or indirectly, promises any employment, position, compensation, contract, appointment, or other benefit… to any person as consideration, favor, or reward for any political activity… in connection with any general or special election to any political office, or in connection with any primary election… shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.”

NRD contributor Anita MonCrief finds disturbing ACORN connections with radical judicial nominee Jack McConnell. As Anita writes: “‘If you make a mess, you have to help clean it up’, John ‘Jack’ McConnell said in his opening statement in a case that would have lasting and costly effects. From the looks of things McConnell and his friends may need a mop because there is a trail of corruption originating from Rhode Island that has spread to DC and polluted the country. McConnell’s nomination for the Rhode Island’s federal court reeks of backroom deals and paybacks.”
A victory for free speech. “On March 26th, 2010, SpeechNow.org won a federal case against the Federal Election Commission (FEC), which had barred the organization from raising unlimited amounts of money from its donors. The ruling by the D.C. District Court applied the reasoning from the recent Citizens United case, which previously lifted restrictions on expenditures by independent organizations.”
The Interior Department is denying that it has frozen oil drilling in shallow gulf waters. An Interior spokesman said, “shallow water drilling may continue as long as oil and gas operations satisfy the environmental and safety requirements Secretary Salazar outlined…” BP has finally cut the pipe and is lowering a cap.

NY Post: How not to save news. “The Federal Trade Commission says it wants to save journalism. I’m not sure who asked it to. In a just-released ‘staff discussion draft’ of ‘potential policy recommendations to support the reinvention of journalism,’ the agency only circles its wagons around old newspapers and their fading business models.”
