It is no secret in Washington, D.C. that the Obama administration’s vast bureaucracy is working overtime to prepare for the new Republican controlled House. The reason for this frenzy of preparation is the new oversight power that the House Republicans will have to peer in to what Obama’s cronies are up to behind the curtain.
You can probably hear the loudest hum of shredders working double time at the Department of Labor. According to DOL emails, the department is working frantically to be prepared for what might happen in January.
On December 14, the political staff at the Department of Labor will be heading to a retreat to discuss mistakes made by Clinton’s DOL in the aftermath of the ‘94 GOP takeover. Obama and Secretary of Labor Solis are determined to not make the same mistakes this time around.
DOL staff have already been warned about deleting emails and are expected to be going through an ethics briefing in the not to distant future.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who will Chair the House Oversight Committee starting in January, told CBS News in November that he will be busily investigating what is happening behind the curtains of government. “I want seven hearings a week, times 40 weeks,” Issa told CBS.
Reports surfaced last week that the Obama administration’s Labor Department plans to enforce labor law in an unfair war. The Solicitor of Labor’s office drafted a shocking document that shows that the Labor Department will be going after businesses in an unusual way. According to Americans for Limited Government’s Nathan Mehrens, “apparently the Department and the Solicitor in particular do not believe that merely following the law is the right thing to do. They are now running down the path of berating employers, using tools other than the law to achieve their agenda. This is an unfortunate abuse of power that should be thoroughly exposed.”
We can only hope that Issa opens the doors of the Department of Labor to public scrutiny and brings an end to this madness.
