Democrats Push for $35 Billion Public Sector Union Bailout

By Adam Bitely — Senate Democrats are pushing for a $35 billion bailout for states to the benefit of teachers which will result in a major cash infusion for teachers’ unions. This money will certainly be put towards the election of Democrats.

“It is hard to think of a greater waste of taxpayer resources,” said Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson of a Senate Democrat plan to spend another $35 billion to bail out states that refuse to cut spending, which will funnel $95 million to help elect Democrats.

How?

Included in that amount is $30 billion for public school teachers.  Senate Democrats project their bill will prop up about 400,000 teachers jobs, or about 12 percent of the 3.3 million teachers nationwide.

If you assume just half of the 400,000 teachers are unionized, the $30 billion will pass through their paychecks and back into the unions’ hands in the form of dues. The estimated amount of contributions to state and local unions average about $300 per teacher, as well as $162 for the National Education Association or $190 for the American Federation of Teachers.

That works out to about $475 per unionized teacher in union dues, multiplied by half of the 400,000, which works out to $95 million going to the public teachers unions.  Wilson called it a “political slush fund to help Democrats, including Barack Obama, get elected.”

Teacher unions predominantly give campaign contributions to getting Democrats elected—95 percent worth—according to teachersunionexposed.com.
