EPA Nominee Gina McCarthy Approves of Car-Exploding Refrigerant

-By Brad Tidwell

This is Gina ‘Pinto’ McCarthy, Obama’s appointed replacement to head the Environmental Protection Agency.

EPA Nominee Gina McCarthy will have her eye on you...

She'll have her eye on you...

She thinks this stuff- HFO-1234yf (or Tetrafluoropropene)- is good for the environment, and would make a great car coolant.

HFO-1234yf or Tetrafluoropropene Structural Formula

HFO-1234yf, or Tetrafluoropropene for... short?

Looks harmless, right? Except it’s not. It can cause cars to explode when they get in accidents- which is pretty often.

Exploded Car

This is your car on HFO-1234yf.

But exploding cars are just not as important as the environment is it? What about humans? This is what happens to human hands exposed to Tetrafluoropropene:

Hands exposed to HFO-1234yf

And these are your hands on HFO-1234yf.

And Gina ‘Pinto’ McCarthy wants to put this stuff in every new car. Needless to say, a lot of companies aren’t buying it, and won’t put it in their cars. Here’s a video from Daimler showing why:

Not to mention, this stuff is actually bad for the environment! It lets off environmentally dangerous chemicals when exposed to the atmosphere:

Atmospheric oxidation of Tetrafluoropropene

And this is the atmosphere on HFO-1234yf.

Now Obama wants to make her the new head of the EPA. Genius. Now you know why her nickname is ‘Pinto’:

And McCarthy’s reaction?
