Trey Gowdy lays down on the law on why Lois Lerner was found in contempt in Congress

By Tom Toth

South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy laid out effectively why former IRS official Lois Lerner voided her Fifth Amendment right to not testify about her part in the IRS Tea Party targeting scandal.

According to Gowdy, Lerner voided her right when she gave a statement claiming her innocence and making 17 factual statements – before claiming the Fifth Amendment.

Earlier this week, Lois Lerner was referred to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution by the powerful House Committee on Ways and Means and she was also held in contempt of Congress by the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight.
