The Biden Administration wants you to know if you are in America illegally and can’t afford a place to live — no problem — taxpayers will cover that. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge said this week the Biden administration won’t prevent illegal immigrants from access to public housing. She said the new administration will drop a Trump-era policy that ensure only U.S. citizens received public housing aid. In 2019, the Trump administration proposed tightening regulations to prevent undocumented immigrants from accessing federally subsidized housing. Then-HUD Secretary Ben Carson said the federal government needed to – quote – make certain our scarce public resources help those who are legally entitled to it. We agree. Fairness – or equity as the left likes to say – requires that we devote ourselves to legal residents who have been waiting, some for many years, for access to affordable housing.
