In striking down affirmative action schemes at universities and colleges, the Supreme Court has ended a practice that pitted applicants against one another based on group identities rather than individual achievement and potential.
On this Fourth of July I want to share a more personal message than I typically do — because the court’s ruling is personal to me.
Students should be judged as INDIVIDUALS — not on the basis of a group identity.
And that is what it means to be an American – to stand and be judged on our own merits — our own accomplishments.
