Is it time to rethink mail-in ballots? With the ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen.
The nation may not know the results of the presidential election and many senate races for days, even weeks. All because of mail-in voting. Mail-in ballots are injecting uncertainty, drama, and potential litigation into our elections. None of this is good. States ought to roll back mail-in voting to what it used to be – reserved for those in the military and others with extenuating circumstances. Until recently, voting was one of the few remaining civic activities that unified us as a nation. Election Day mattered. We showed up the polls with our neighbors and voted together on the same day. Not only does mail-in voting further unravel our civic bonds, it undermines our faith in election results. There are just too many cases of ballots mysteriously appearing out of nowhere and other ballots showing up in ditches or tossed in the garbage.

In the Senate, Republicans have won key races in South Carolina, Iowa and Montana, and retaken the Alabama Senate seat, and at the moment appear to be leading in Michigan, Georgia, Maine and North Carolina. Democrats have picked up seats in Arizona and Colorado. That’s not yet enough for Democrats to win a majority — they need three new net seats plus the White House to break ties. There’s still a lot of counting to go, and at least one runoff in Georgia coming later this year. But if the GOP’s Senate lead holds, even if former Vice President Joe Biden manages to win the White House, he may do it without winning the Senate — making him the first Democrat entering a first term to not also win both the House and the Senate since before Franklin Roosevelt. Brace for impact. With the ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. This election has Americans everywhere are on edge. In D.C., a group called #ShutDownDC is organizing protesters to target Republican officials and government buildings during a series of planned election-week demonstrations. The demonstrations will culminate Friday, when—based on the election results—protesters will attempt to blockade bridges, major highways, intersections, and government office buildings.

In the days leading up to the election, business owners in downtown D.C. have already begun boarding up windows to protect their stores from rioters and looters.

A JL Partners-Independent poll found that 72% of voters say they’re concerned about post-election violence.

It’s not right that businesses in our nation’s capital should be boarded up. BLM and Antifa thugs are holding our cities hostage, threatening violence if the election doesn’t go their way. This is outrageous and unacceptable.

If you want to go back to shipping our jobs to China, vote for Biden
If you want higher taxes, vote for Biden

There are two things you can do to help Donald Trump get re-elected.

Go out of your way to talk to and personally reach out to like-minded friends and relatives and urge them to vote if they have not already done so.
Ask everyone who your reach to talk to one other person to make certain that they are voting as well.
If we all pull together, the hopeful vision of America’s future will prevail and the dark winter for America that Joe Biden talks about will be avoided.

President Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Bill Stepien, is predicting “if the voters that we KNOW are still out there for Election Day show up ON Election Day, President Trump has four more years at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.” Early data shows that, headed into Election Day, Republicans are overperforming and have closed the gap on early and absentee voting compared to 2016 in several of the battleground states Trump carried in 2016. But the question will turn on Election Day turnout. If turnout is light, Biden will likely win with the early voting edge, despite Republicans overperforming on early and absentee ballots. On the other hand, if Republicans show up heavily at the polls, the odds increase that President Trump will have pulled off yet another historic upset and will be serving for four more years. Will the Silent Majority show up on Tuesday?

Blue State Blues. With the ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. The misery index spikes under heavy-handed Covid lockdowns in blue states. More than half of Coloradans have experienced increased mental health strain during the pandemic. In neighboring New Mexico, another Democrat governor’s lockdowns have had similarly devastating effects. As many as four in five New Mexico public school students are failing at least one class in some of the state’s school districts. The extreme lockdowns in Pennsylvania led to a sharp increase in drug overdoses in the state.

It appears blue state governors fear campaigns are working. A Gallup poll reveals a mere 5% of men and 3% of women Democrats reported being ready to return to normal.

Joe Biden is stoking those fears. In the final debate he warned Americans – quote “We’re about to go into a dark winter, a dark winter.

We prefer Donald Trump’s message from the debate: “We can’t lock ourselves in a basement like Joe does.”
