Blue State Blues. With the ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. The misery index spikes under heavy-handed Covid lockdowns in blue states. More than half of Coloradans have experienced increased mental health strain during the pandemic. In neighboring New Mexico, another Democrat governor’s lockdowns have had similarly devastating effects. As many as four in five New Mexico public school students are failing at least one class in some of the state’s school districts. The extreme lockdowns in Pennsylvania led to a sharp increase in drug overdoses in the state.

It appears blue state governors fear campaigns are working. A Gallup poll reveals a mere 5% of men and 3% of women Democrats reported being ready to return to normal.

Joe Biden is stoking those fears. In the final debate he warned Americans – quote “We’re about to go into a dark winter, a dark winter.

We prefer Donald Trump’s message from the debate: “We can’t lock ourselves in a basement like Joe does.”

Data from Gallup suggests Democrats are far more fearful of the virus: 70 percent of Democratic men and 73 percent of Democratic women say they avoid going to public places versus 31 percent of Republican men and 38 percent of Republican women. Overall, nationwide, 90.3 million ballots have been requested (this also includes California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Utah that mailed out ballots to every registered voter), but only 52.9 million of those have been returned, or 58 percent. Meaning the campaign of Covid fear by news outlets could actually be helping Republicans by suppressing Democratic turnout more than it suppresses GOP turnout. What’s your prediction?

With the ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Given the level of violence in our cities, it is not surprising that this election could hinge on law and order. Biden and Kamala Harris hem and haw when asked about how to restore order to our cities. Here’s why. Number one – Biden called police the enemy. Number two – Harris supported cutting $150 million from the Los Angeles Police Department budget. Number three – Biden and Harris campaign staffers bragged about donating to a group that paid bail fees for Minneapolis rioters. Biden plans to ban the manufacture, sale, and possession of a host of popular semiautomatic firearms. Number five – Biden would bring back a failed Obama-era housing scheme that would morph our suburbs into inner city Detroit.

In 36 out of the past 40 elections dating back to 1860, Ohio has chosen the winner of the presidential race, far more than any other state — 90 percent of the time. The exceptions were 1884, 1892, 1944 and 1960. And now, in the latest Fox News poll, President Trump is beating former Vice President Joe Biden in Ohio 48 percent to 45 percent in a poll taken Oct. 17 to Oct. 20. That represents an 8-point swing from the last month’s Fox poll in the Buckeye State, which had Biden leading 50 percent to 45 percent. And Portage County, Ohio Republican Party Chairman Amanda Suffecool tells with Americans for Limited Government: “Ohio is part of the heartland and so it’s fairly predictive in that manner because we’re not any of the extremes… The drive and energy this year, I have absolutely no doubt — we brought Ohio to Trump last election with a really pretty reasonable margin and I expect that to be higher just generally, because of the amount of energy that you see.” What do you think will happen on Election Day?

Celebrating International Religious Freedom Day. With the ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen.
This week the U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia recognized the plight of the oppressed Uyghur Muslims in China on International Religious Freedom Day.
Many people around the world do not enjoy the freedom to practice their faith, but instead face persecution for their religious beliefs. The Uyghur Muslims and other religious and ethnic minorities in China have been forced into state-sponsored labor and re-education camps by the Chinese Communist Party.
The growing push to divest U.S. retirement accounts from non-transparent, child and slave-owning Chinese companies gained momentum last week when Sen. Kelly Loeffler of Georgia sent a letter to Scalia requesting the federal government block human rights-abusing companies from American investment eligibility.
We thank Scalia and Loeffler for taking a tough, principled stand against the abuses of the Chinese Communist Party and call on everyone to join in the growing movement to divest from China.

Joe Biden wants to squeeze the middle class
with the ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen

If elected, Joe Biden plans to roll back the Trump tax cut to finance his socialist healthcare agenda. He’ll need to raise $2.25 trillion over the next decade to pay for it, according to an analysis from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
But Biden has repeatedly promised voters who earn under $400,000 that his tax hikes will not affect them. Narrowly speaking, that is true. However, those households would see lower investment returns and wages as a result of Biden’s corporate tax increases.

It simply is not economically possible to separate out the impacts on the high-income from everyone else.

That’s because the rich purchase items from others, some not as rich, and from businesses that employ workers across the income spectrum.

Most importantly, the real money, as everyone knows, is always in the middle class. That is why big-spending politicians like Biden always end up taxing the middle class, either directly or indirectly.

On Oct. 10, Ross DiMattei on KTNV told Biden that “packing the courts” is “the number one thing I’ve been asked about from viewers in the past couple days” and asked, “Don’t the voters deserve to know?”

To which Biden declared, “No they don’t [deserve to know] — I’m not going to play his game. He’d love me to talk about, and I’ve already said something on pack[ing] the court. He’d love that to be the discussion instead of what he’s doing now.”

That followed Biden in Phoenix on Oct. 8 similarly refusing to answer the question on court-packing, stating, “You’ll know my position on court-packing the day after the election.”

And should Biden win, the American people will get to find out exactly what his administration might do. Usually, when Democrats win the White House, they similarly sweep the House and Senate, as every Democratic President since Franklin Roosevelt has done in his first term since 1932. And there won’t be much the American people can do about it.

The Constitution simply states, in Article II, Section 2, “The President… shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint … judges of the Supreme Court…”

Nothing, however, sets the number of justices in stone. To do that, Congress would have to pass and the States would have to ratify a constitutional amendment proposed by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), stating, “The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine justices.”

Almost as soon as Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away, Democrats were already threatening to abolish the filibuster in order to amend the Judiciary Act of 1869 and pack the Supreme Court — increasing the threshold way beyond the current nine justices set by law.
