Is President Trump getting a bump in the polls out of the Republican National Convention?

Trump surges ahead in battleground states Michigan, Wisconsin in Trafalgar poll. Does Biden need to get out of his basement?
http://dailytorch.com/2020/08/trump-surges-ahead-in-battleground-states-michigan-wisconsin-in-trafalgar-poll-does-biden-need-to-get-out-of-his-basement/

President Donald Trump appears to be pulling ahead of former Vice President Joe Biden in the battleground, rust belt states of Michigan and Wisconsin, according to two polls by the Trafalgar Group, the polling firm that correctly called the 2016 election for Trump in the battleground states of Michigan and Pennsylvania. In the latest polls, in Michigan, Trump leads Biden, 46.6 percent to 45.2 percent, and in Wisconsin, the lead is 46.2 percent to 45.4 percent. Both polls were taken from Aug. 14 to Aug. 23. Michigan factors prominently into Trump’s message on trade, as he ended NAFTA with the renegotiated USMCA and levied heavy tariffs against China — a key message for the union households there that helped Trump win in 2016. His opponent, Biden, voted for NAFTA and permanent normal trade relations with China, a country that uses child and forced slave labor in its factories. As for Wisconsin, which Trump won in 2016, an additional factor to consider are the riots in the wake of the Kenosha shootings of Jacob Blake by police officer Rusten Sheskey on Aug. 23, and Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum by Kyle Rittenhouse on Aug. 25. In a stunning turn of events, Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers agreed to deploy the National Guard to respond to the state of emergency. And it apparently worked. President Trump reported on Twitter on Aug. 28: “Success: Since the National Guard moved into Kenosha, Wisconsin, two days ago, there has been NO FURTHER VIOLENCE, not even a small problem. When legally asked to help by local authorities, the Federal Government will act and quickly succeed. Are you listening Portland?” That could have a major impact on November, with Trump’s law and order message taking hold in the Midwest. Overall, the poll results could show the President beginning to exert his incumbency advantage in an environment where Biden has been reluctant to campaign amid COVID-19 health concerns. How do you think the presidential race will go in the Rust Belt in 2020?

Trump accepts GOP nomination amid rapid recovery, improving jobs picture as millions return to work

President Trump is bringing America back again, accepts Republican nomination as 2.9 million leave unemployment in a month:
http://dailytorch.com/2020/08/president-trump-is-bringing-america-back-again-accepts-republican-nomination-as-2-9-million-leave-unemployment-in-month/

President Donald Trump has once again accepted the Republican nomination for President with the promise to fully reopen America as 2.9 million Americans have left continued unemployment claims in the past month, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As of July 18, on an unadjusted basis, 16.8 million Americans were on unemployment, but as of Aug. 15, that number was down to 13.9 million, according to the Department of Labor, a dramatic shift of 2.9 million back into the labor force as states reopen in the aftermath of the spring lockdown response to the COVID-19 pandemic. That should build upon the 10.1 million jobs that have been recovered since labor markets bottomed in April, according to the Bureau of labor Statistics’ household survey, with the Sept. 4 unemployment report due out, in what can only be called a miraculous turnaround that few but President Trump saw coming. President Trump predicted the rapid recovery now underway, where now the Atlanta Federal Reserve is projecting a more than 25 percent expansion of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter. How about that?

Jerusalem has always been the capital of Israel & Trump is the first President to fully recognize it

Sec. of State Pompeo’s speech from Jerusalem demonstrates the U.S. and President Trump’s unbreakable commitment to Israel:
http://dailytorch.com/2020/08/sec-of-state-pompeos-speech-from-jerusalem-demonstrates-the-u-s-and-president-trumps-unbreakable-commitment-to-israel/

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s speech from Jerusalem for the Republican National Convention sent a strong signal to the American people and the world about the U.S. and President Donald Trump’s strong commitment to U.S. ally, Israel. While the speech caught the attention of many observers because of its downstream political implications, including the potential future of Secretary Pompeo, what is more telling is it served as visual proof, a symbol that President Trump has done what his predecessors had only promised to. He moved the U.S. embassy to Israel’s capital in Jerusalem, and declared unequivocally that U.S. policy is to keep the capital there. In fact, President Trump is the first president in U.S. history to fully recognize Israel’s right to say where its capital is. In 1995, Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act which described Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and said it should not be divided, requiring the U.S. embassy to be moved to Jerusalem by 1999. President Bill Clinton never signed the law. Instead, presidents since then all signed waivers to postpone recognition of Jerusalem as the capital, as U.S. policy was that the status of Jerusalem would be settled via negotiations. Now, with President Trump’s action to finally move the embassy, there’s nothing left to negotiate. President Trump has settled long-held point of confrontation between Israel and her neighbors, and creates a path forward in the region. What do you think?

Price controls on Medicare prescription drugs will just shift costs to non-Medicare patients

Price controls for Medicare prescription drugs will just pass along costs of drug innovation to non-Medicare patients, could lead to socialized medicine:
http://dailytorch.com/2020/08/price-controls-for-medicare-prescription-drugs-will-just-pass-along-costs-of-drug-innovation-to-non-medicare-patients-could-lead-to-socialized-medicine/

President Donald Trump is currently considering an executive order that will direct the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to implement a proposed 2018 rule instituting an International Pricing Index for Medicare Part B prescription drugs. The intent is to reduce drug costs for seniors. However, it will come at a significant cost to non-Medicare patients, who will be compelled to shoulder the costs of drug innovation. How do we know that? Because the U.S. is already bearing the costs of drug innovation for the rest of the world, which uses similar price controls, in turn passing along the costs to the American people, who pay far more than the rest of the world. Politically, this could also create an opening for Democrats to exploit the disparity by calling for more price controls or even for socialized medicine. House Democrats have proposed Medicare for All, while Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former Vice President Joe Biden are similarly offering Biden’s public option. Either way, Democrats can bill socialized medicine as a means of reducing out-of-pocket prescription costs that non-Medicare patients will be burdened with under the CMS rule. Ultimately, the question that remains is who pays for the price of drug innovation?

Biden’s VP pick Kamala Harris supported cutting $150 million from LAPD & reducing force to under 10k

Joe Biden goes all in on defund the police with Kamala Harris VP pick:
http://dailytorch.com/2020/08/joe-biden-goes-all-in-on-defund-the-police-with-kamala-harris-vp-pick/

Former Vice President Joe Biden has selected U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as his running mate and presumptive Democratic Party nominee for Vice President in the 2020 election as the Biden campaign goes all in on the defund the police issue. In June Sen. Harris supported cutting $150 million from the Los Angeles Police Department budget and taking the police force below 10,000 for the first time in more than a decade. “I applaud Eric Garcetti for doing what he’s done,” Harris told ABC’s Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulos in June, adding, “Right now, what we’re seeing in America is many cities spend over one-third of their entire city budget on policing but meanwhile we’ve been defunding public schools for years in America.” The pick of Harris comes as Biden for his part has attempted to thread the needle on the issue, telling CBS News in an interview: “No, I don’t support defunding the police. I support conditioning federal aid to police based on whether or not they meet certain basic standards of decency and honorableness and … are able to demonstrate they can protect the community.” Meaning, if police departments did not meet up with Biden’s criteria, he would indeed deny funds. In June, an ABC News/Ipsos poll found 64 percent of Americans reject the idea of defunding the police, including 91 percent of Republicans, 45 percent of Democrats, 43 percent of blacks, 58 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of whites. In short, Harris is a sop to the BLM-Antifa wing of the party, a signal by Biden to the rioters that says “I’m with you”, but at the cost of moderate Democrats in suburban areas who oppose defunding the police. What do you think?

Portland, Oreg. and other liberal cities refuse to use National Guard to quell anti-police rebellion

President Trump urges Portland, Oreg. to ‘bring in the National Guard. The Mayor and Governor are putting people’s lives at risk’:
http://dailytorch.com/2020/08/president-trump-urges-portland-oreg-to-bring-in-the-national-guard-the-mayor-and-governor-are-putting-peoples-lives-at-risk/

President Donald Trump on Twitter on Aug. 10, urged Oregon Democratic Governor Kate Brown to deploy the National Guard after a riot was declared in Portland, Oreg. when the Portland Police Association (PPA) building was set on fire. “Portland, which is out of control, should finally, after almost 3 months, bring in the National Guard. The Mayor and Governor are putting people’s lives at risk. They will be held responsible. The Guard is ready to act immediately. The Courthouse is secured by Homeland!” Trump wrote. But Oregon Democratic Governor Kate Brown may simply lack the political will to do what is necessary to preserve law and order for fear it might help President Trump politically. That’s just too bad. Governor Brown and Mayor Wheeler must realize that if they refuse to restore civil order, President Trump is more than willing to step in and do it for them. What do you think?
