With Election Day less than a month away, the race for President in 2020 is coming down to the wire, with President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden both offering reasons why they think they will come out on top — and why undecided voters should come their way.
The incumbent, President Trump, is offering a vision for safely reopening America, schools and the economy from the COVID-19 pandemic, to get working families back on the job — with 14 million jobs already recovered — and to return life to as close to normal as soon as is possible.
Whereas, the challenger, Biden, appears to want to remain in the state-led economic lockdowns for the foreseeable future, telling ABC News in August that “we cannot get the country moving until we control the virus” and “in order to keep the country running and moving, and the economy growing and people employed, you have to fix the virus,” and adding that if it was recommended to him, “I would shut it down…”
Presumably, Biden and his supporters are waiting for a vaccine before it is ever deemed safe to go back to normal, but what if there is no effective vaccine? What then?
It’s a legitimate question. After all, there has never been an effective vaccine for coronavirus in history. Not for SARS. Not for MERS. Not for the common cold. And not yet for COVID-19.
Would Biden just leave the economy shut down forever?
Biden winning as he and state governors indefinitely holding the American people hostage in order to extract financial concessions from Congress to transform the economy — think Green New Deal, universal income, socialized medicine, ongoing riots in our cities, etc. — is a very real possibility the American would do well to consider before November.
Because in every election since 1932, every Democrat winning the White House in his first term has also won the House and the Senate, often with super majorities. They sweep into power in remarkable fashion.
Franklin Roosevelt won the election and took the House and the Senate in 1932. Harry Truman went on to win both in 1948. So did John Kennedy in 1960. Lyndon Johnson won the House and Senate in 1964. As did Jimmy Carter in 1976. And Bill Clinton in 1992. And finally, Barack Obama won the trifecta in 2008.
And to cement their majorities and the legislative gains they make in 2020, Democrats have already threatened to abolish the filibuster in order to amend the Judiciary Act of 1869 and pack the Supreme Court — increasing the threshold way beyond the current nine justices set by law.
In the first presidential debate on Sept. 29, Biden refused to answer the question of abolishing the filibuster and packing the court, saying, “Whatever position I take on that, that will become the issue… I’m not going to answer that question…”
Given another opportunity to quell public fears of Democrats’ court-packing scheme, Biden told WTAE in Pittsburgh, “You know, that’s exactly what they want me to talk about… I’m not going to play Trump’s game…”
In other words, Biden refuses to take abolishing the filibuster and packing the Supreme Court off the table — something that has not been done for more than 150 years.
But there is no question. When given the opportunity to abolish the judicial filibuster to fill vacancies the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Obama-Biden administration wasted no time, stacking it seven to four with Democrat-appointed judges. And you should be worried. The changes Democrats want to make to the country they aim make permanent.
For Republicans, then, 2020 is all or nothing. Either, the nation reelects President Trump to another four years, or perhaps the GOP spends a generation in the wilderness as the radical left transforms the Constitution, packs federal courts, institutes the Green New Deal, socializes our health care system, shuts down our economy, lets mob rule consume our cities and makes the nation more vulnerable to foreign adversaries.
This is the most radical platform any Democratic candidate has ever run on.
2020 then is not merely a choice election that will be ruled by turnout — it is an existential threat to the U.S. Constitution and the civil society if Biden wins. This is a bid for one-party rule.
