Senator Obamas Assault on the Constitution

  • At first blush, Barack Obama’s (D-IL) latest attack on his multi-million-member Enemies’ List looks like nothing more than the usual hard left assault on the working-class masses and their middle-class morality.

But, if you dig a little deeper, it’s far more than yet another pious putdown. Its intent is far more nefarious. And its ramifications are far more insidious.

For you see, Senator Obama’s calculated cynicism extends well beyond the good, decent, God-fearing, law-abiding people of Pennsylvania. It extends to like-minded Americans nationwide, as well. And even to the Constitution, itself.

Take a good, careful look at the quote itself (in its pre-spin and network cover-up incarnation):

“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them and they fell through the Clinton administration and the Bush administration, each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate, and they haven’t. It’s not surprising, then, that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

So what, exactly, do the “bitter” proles “cling” to that Mr. Obama finds so personally repugnant? Well, it’s far more than inanimate objects and personal animus. As alluded to above, it’s actually the Constitution of the United States. It’s a document that Mr. Obama has chided us about before, considering it, as he does, highly objectionable (along with those who wrote it).

But, let’s be specific here. Let’s zero in on exactly what it is about the good people of Pennsylvania, their kindred spirits nationwide, and the document that governs them that so offends the Pecksniffian Mr. Obama. As he relates in his condescending excoriation:

    • First of all, they “cling” to “guns” – which means these backwoods, barnyard Neanderthals actually take seriously the 2nd Amendment to the document Mr. Obama and his elitist ilk consider antiquated and out of vogue.
    • Second, they “cling” to “religion” – which means they still embrace what Mr. Obama’s progenitor called the “opiate of the masses,” a passé relic of bygone days that should long since have been relegated to the dung-heap of history, the 1st Amendment notwithstanding.
    • Third, they “cling” to “antipathy for people who aren’t like them” – a felonious faux pas in Mr. Obama’s PC society, which considers the First Amendment guarantee to Freedom of Assembly fully dependent upon Big Government’s dictates as to with whom you may, or may not, choose to assemble.
    • Fourth, and finally, they “cling” to “anti-immigrant sentiment” — and never you mind that Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution explicit grants Congress the power “to establish uniform rules of naturalization,” something the hoity-toities of the Obamanation have prissily stricken from their tattered copy of the Constitution. (And, yes, I am ignoring the “anti-trade” inanity, which even in Mr. Obama’s tortured lexicon has absolutely no meaning whatsoever.)

So, there you have it: Barack Obama’s angry outburst wasn’t merely directed at the decent people of Pennsylvania, bound up as they are in their middle-class morality. Nor, was he just unleashing his scorn on middle-class Americans nationwide who dare depart from his socialist orthodoxy. Mr. Obama’s real target was the Constitution of the United States.

And, should he somehow convince a majority of Americans that (1) he doesn’t really believe his own words, or (2) they shouldn’t believe their own ears, he’ll very likely continue shredding it from the day he enters the Oval Office.

Americans for Limited Government does not endorse or oppose any candidate for public office. And we would like to maintain the constitutional right to do neither for many years to come. Hence, we urge all commentators to draw careful scrutiny to those who would arrantly plunder constitutional guarantees — even under the guise of simply attacking those who choose to exercise those precious rights.
