This is about my late, lamented dog, Baron. So, if you don’t like pets – or if you hate the thought of an Obama police state – brace yourself.

About a year ago, I was accosted by a jackboot thug from the local county sheriff’s department in a deserted nine-acre park at 6:30 in the morning, four miles outside of town, because I had let Baron off of his leash to run free for a few minutes. Now, I had been doing this for 11 years, through sun, rain, and knee-deep snow, with the consent of the groundskeeper (who happened to be the only other person I ever saw at said deserted park at 6:30 in the morning).

Unfortunately, this member of the constabulary had something of a burr up his gluteus maximus that day, so he decided to confront me over the park’s rarely enforced leash law. I immediately grabbed Baron, and said, “I’m sorry. We didn’t mean any harm,” to which the officer retorted angrily, “You want to go in on a disorderly?” When I shook my head and turned to leave, he yelled, “See this badge? I don’t need any smart aleck attitude from you.” When I stopped in my tracks, afraid to move a muscle, he glared at me and yelled, “You gonna leave, or do you want to go in on a disorderly? And I know how to dispose of the dog.”

Now, you may be saying to yourself, “What in the heck does all of this have to do with Barack Obama and a police state?”

I’m glad you asked. So let me lay it out. How would you like to be the owner or operator of a TV or radio station in the state of Missouri today and be faced with the decision at to whether or not to run NRA ads opposing Barack Obama – when the state’s ruling constabulary has already set upon you like … well, jack-booted thugs?

Lest anyone think I’m overstating the threat Obama’s jackboot Brown Shirts, here’s the actual transcript of a September 28 story on the situation from KMOV Channel 4 in St. Louis (and were I their intrepid reporters, I’d now be entering the FBI’s witness protection program):

Anchor: Senator Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad during the presidential campaign. John Mills is live at the county election board to learn more about which members of law enforcement are getting involved in this. John, tell us more about this.

John Mills: Well sir, good evening. Prosecutors and sheriffs from across Missouri are joining something called the Barack Obama truth squad. Two high profile prosecutors are part of the team. We met them this afternoon in the central west end. They are Jennifer Joyce from the city, Bob McCullah, the St Louis County prosecuting attorney. They will be reminding voters that Barack Obama is a Christian who wants to cut taxes for anyone making less than $250,000 a year. They also say they plan to respond immediately to any ads and statements that might violate Missouri ethics laws.

Jennifer Joyce: We want to keep this campaign focused on issues. We don’t want people to get distracted and Missourians don’t want to be distracted by these divisive character attacks. So we’re here to respond to any character attacks, to set the record straight.

Bob McCullah: Whether it is directly attributable to the campaign or to one of the soft money operations, if they’re not going to tell the truth, then somebody has to step up and say wait a minute. It’s not true. This is the truth.

John Mills: The Obama campaign tells News 4 that others, prosecutors, and sheriffs are also part of the team including some from the Kansas City area and from rural parts of Missouri. We’re also told the Truth Squad is expected to include Jefferson County Sheriff Glen Boyd. I’m in Maplewood, John Mills, News Four.

Now, should anyone – like, for example, Obama apologist and pseudo-ABC news person Jake Tapper – try to tell you that the Missouri jack-booted Brown Shirts are acting unofficially, that they are just swell folks seeking the truth all on their own, I want you to pay special attention to the underlined passage from the anchor’s lead sentence in that story:

“Senator Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad during the presidential campaign.”

And the unlined text in John Mills’ on-site report: “They also say they plan to respond immediately to any ads and statements that might violate Missouri ethics laws.”

And, finally, Mills’ closing statement, all of which should send a chill up your spine:

“The Obama campaign tells News 4 that others, prosecutors, and sheriffs are also part of the team including some from the Kansas City area and from rural parts of Missouri. We’re also told the Truth Squad is expected to include Jefferson County Sheriff Glen Boyd.”

Let me put it this way: If some ordinary citizen had confronted me in a deserted nine-acre park at 6:30 in the morning, four miles outside of town, because I had let Baron off of his leash to run free for a few minutes, I very likely would have told him to “go forth and multiply.” But, when you are accosted by a guy with a gun, badge, mace, and a club – who threatens to bring the full power of the state against you – you tend to be a little more circumspect.

Oh, come on, who am I fooling? It scares the living daylights out of you! And whatever it is you have (or haven’t) done, you’re not likely to even think of doing again.

That is precisely why Barack Obama has sicced his jackboot Brown Shirt thugs on the broadcast media in Missouri. And it is also precisely why every American who values his or her freedom of speech better be prepared for Krystal Nacht West should this arrogant little tyrant become our first-ever president for life.

Here’s how Missouri Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) described the Obama operatives’ assault on freedom of speech:

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.”

Of course, it’s easy to shrug off the Governor’s umbrage as mere party politics. And, were Obama’s minions merely everyday citizens threatening legal action, that might well be the case. But, those threatening legal action in Missouri aren’t everyday citizens; they are some of the state’s highest-ranking legal authorities. So, as they full well know, their threats carry with them the full power of the state.

Their words are intended to scare the living daylights out of any TV or radio station that dares to carry ads criticizing Barack Obama. And anyone who isn’t frightened by that prospect probably has “some guy living in his neighborhood” named Bill Ayers who describes himself as a “communist with a small c.”

I wish I could tell you that the story of my dog, Baron, had a happy ending. But it didn’t. Baron died a few short months later, never again getting to run free in the park he had grown to love every single day of his life for 11 wonderful years.

If Barack Obama’s jackboot Brown Shirts are allowed to get away with their assault on freedom in the state of Missouri, Americans’ right to speak free may be in equal jeopardy. Nationwide. For decades to come. And you don’t have to like pets for that to frighten the living daylights out of you.
