Appointment Watch: Smith and Boylan
The mainstream media continue to ignore President Obama’s appointment of bizarre personnel to run the government. Personnel is policy. That being the case the American people need to know about these appointments. This week we look another couple of Obama appointees. These are not isolated incidents or an occasional bad apple. These folks are representative of the appointments he is making with little or no push back from the Senate during the confirmation process.
M. Patricia Smith, Solicitor of Labor
Lorelei Boylan, Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division, U.S. Department of Labor
- Smith and Boylan are both from the New York State Department of Labor.
- At the New York Labor Department Smith and Boylan dreamed up an enforcement scheme called “Wage Watch” that uses union activists to enforce wage and hour laws.
- One union specifically stated that they would target “non-union” employers as part of this scheme.
- The Ranking Member of the committee considering Smith’s nomination, Sen. Enzi, has called for the President to withdraw her nomination.
- Smith was nominated on April 20, 2009 and her nomination is pending in committee.
- Boylan was nominated on May 11, 2009 and her nomination is pending in committee.
