  • Appointment Watch: Owens and Kerlikowske

The mainstream media continue to ignore President Obama’s appointment of bizarre personnel to run the government. Personnel is policy. That being the case the American people need to know about these appointments. This week we look another couple of Obama appointees. These are not isolated incidents or an occasional bad apple. These folks are representative of the appointments he is making with little or no push back from the Senate during the confirmation process.

Stephen Owens, Assistant Administrator for Toxic Substances, Environmental Protection Agency

    • Owens has a known propensity for regulating in excess of his authority.
    • Owens “has shown a willingness to use regulatory policies to drive policy.”
    • Owens was appointed to his position despite a lack of experience with toxic substances.
    • Owens was confirmed, without one Senator objecting, by the Senate on July 6, 2009.

Gil Kerlikowske, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (Drug Czar)

    • Kerlikowske as a police chief has a history of standing by and allowing rioters to do as they please.
    • Kerlikowske’s own Seattle Police Officers’ Guild voted 90% for “no confidence in him.”
    • Kerlikowske’s Buffalo Police Department required federal oversight due to civil rights violations.
    • Kerlikowske was confirmed, 91 to 1, by the Senate on May 7, 2009.

These are just a sample of the people President Obama is placing in positions of power within his Administration. If you want more information on these three and many others, please visit: http://www.getliberty.org/content.asp?pl=187&contentid=187
