Sen. Jim Webb has just announced he won’t seek re-election in 2012. The first term Senator won a narrow victory over George Allen in one of the closest and most-watched elections in 2006.
Allen announced a few weeks back that he would seek his former seat in 2012. He must first win a primary, where he faces Jamie Radtke.
According to Ben Smith at Politico:
Senate Democratic leaders view Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine, the former Virginia governor, as a top prospect to replace him, despite Kaine’s disavowals that he’s looking at the race.
Kaine, the source said, hasn’t shut the door on the possibility.
