A group called the “Patriotic Millionaires” are complaining that America’s wealthiest are not paying their “fair share” of taxes. This group of millionaires is calling on the government to use their powers to tax the wealthy at a higher rate.
Of course, these same millionaires are waiting to be coerced by the hands of Big Government before they actually take matters into their own hands and make a generous, and voluntary, donation to the Department of the Treasury.
Senator Orrin Hatch responded to these “patriotic” buffoons in a letter where he stated, “[s]ome who associate themselves with your movement have indicated that taxes are only a collective responsibility. This is one reason put forward for not volunteering to pay what they feel is their fair share. This conclusion seems inconsistent with the claim at the top of the Millionaires’ website stating, “[w]e should pay more, we want to pay more.”
Hatch goes on to state where these well-endowed “patriots” can send their voluntary donations, “[f]or those that are interested in making voluntary contributions to pay down the national debt, the process is both easy and advantageous. Federal law authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to accept conditional gifts to the United States for the purposes of reducing the public debt. Individuals can go to the website, pay.gov, where they are able to make a tax deductible charitable contribution to pay down the public debt.”
These “patriots” are united around a cause that seeks to punish those that provide for so many. If these “patriotic” millionaires are truly patriots, they will make a voluntary contribution and not seek the force of government to force those that provide millions of jobs to make non-voluntary and unfair transfers of wealth to the Treasury.
These supposed “patriots” are more idiotic than patriotic.
