Harry Reid blocks cancer funding for kids

By Tom Toth

CNN: “But if [by funding the National Institutes for Health] you can help one child who has cancer, why wouldn’t you do it?”
REID: “Why would we want to do that?”

This video shows the Senate Majority Leader saying those words in response to a question from a CNN’s Dana Bash on the House’s offer to fund the NIH (before questioning her intelligence for raising the point).

Harry ReidYesterday, while also passionately protecting his government shutdown, Sen. Reid attacked a House solution of funding the Veterans Administration as a “wacky idea” after blocking it from Senate consideration.

Reid continues to attack the notion of choosing which federal functions Congress chooses to fund, asking of House measures “what right do they have to pick and choose what part of government’s going to be funded?” obviously forgetting that is the exact way the normal appropriations process works. How else would the Cowboy Poetry Museum in Nevada get federal funding, as reported by Politio?

This is not the first time that Harry Reid has seemed oddly outlandish and out of touch — as noted in Harry Reid’s Magical Glasses, an ALG video from October, 2011 — he’s just never revealed his mean side before.
