One Democrat Senator’s jaw dropping audacity

Clair_McCaskillBy Rick Manning

It is rare that I come across something in politics just causes me to stare in disbelief.  Today was one of those days.

Thank you U.S. Senator Clair McCaskill of Missouri for providing a set of statements that were so utterly brazen that my faith that our nation’s politicians can find even greater depths of cynicism has been renewed.

Apparently McCaskill doesn’t think people in Missouri have either the Internet or the ability to read.  The Daily Caller reports that she, “turned on many in her own party during a town hall meeting Wednesday, claiming she believes a $17 trillion debt is ‘irresponsible’ and that ‘we’re not a first-tier nation anymore if we get swallowed up by debt.’

Is it possible that this red state liberal Democrat Senator has been secretly dining with Mike Lee and Jeff Sessions?  Does she have the iconic tattooed Ted Cruz poster that is showing up everywhere in Los Angeles hung in the inner sanctum of her D.C. office.

Where was this heroine of fiscal responsibility over the first five years of the Obama Administration as the spending floodgates opened to create more than six and a half trillion dollars in new debt?  Was the suddenly transformed fiscal hawk McCaskill standing in the gap fighting her own party and the President against all odds only to be overwhelmed?

Nope.  She has been Obama’s loyal handmaiden for fiscal insanity, putting our nation at risk.

But as incredible and audacious as her first comments on the national debt may have been, the Daily Caller story continues on with the Show Me State Senator decrying the unconstitutional overreach by the federal government saying, “We have ourselves doing things the federal government was never intended to do,” she worried. “I mean, we weren’t supposed to be buying municipal fire trucks, the federal government. We’re doing that now.”

She continues demonstrating that she actually does understand the real constitutional limits on the federal government by admitting, “That’s not the way the Constitution was designed. We weren’t supposed to have the federal government paying for education. We are now doing a lot of that.”

You read it right, while back home talking to the good people of Missouri, McCaskill actually came within a breath of calling for defunding the U.S. Department of Education as an unconstitutional extension of the federal government.

And get this, McCaskill isn’t even up for re-election for another five years.  By the time she is running again, she may be marching the streets of Independence demanding that the U.S. get out of the United Nations and pushing for an end to Obamacare.

Oh never mind, that last part about Obamacare is just absurd.
