Nancy’s Pelosi’s henchmen on the Hill are giving her a pass from her own security mandates. In another case of RULES FOR THEE AND NONE FOR ME, with today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. After the House Speaker fined two Republican lawmakers, Reps. Louie Gohmert and Andrew Clyde $5,000 each for violating her new House metal detector rule, Republicans from the Committee on House Administration demanded that Pelosi be held accountable herself for the same offense. According to a letter the officials sent to the House Acting Sergeant at Arms Timothy Blodgett, Pelosi was seen ignoring the metal detectors as she entered the House Chamber. Blodgett told the lawmakers only the Capitol Police have the authority to fine the speaker, and he would not take action. Rep. Gohmert said this just proves this new rule is being arbitrarily enforced & clearly does not apply to all members. It was put in place for political gain, not for safety. In case you were wondering – yes, the sergeant at arms is appointed by Pelosi.

Consider the recent slap on the wrist given to a former FBI officials who doctored an email to make it appear Carter Page was a Russian agent when Page was actually cooperating with the U.S. government into an investigation of Russian intelligence officials. This was done to keep the false Trump-Russia probe going in 2017. It sends a clear message to Justice Department employees that they can fundamentally alter documents in an attempt to destroy a presidency with a prolonged investigation based on a false pretenses with almost zero repercussions. Three changes that could restore justice to the ‘forgotten man.’ One – lower the cost of law school. Two – lower legal costs through competition. Social media accounts linked to China sowed disinformation prior to the US election, with some continuing to amplify reactions to the Capitol riot. With Today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. International security experts are calling it a significant attempt to influence US politics. A report from Cardiff University in Wales says a sophisticated China-linked social media operation played a key role in spreading disinformation during and after the US election. The network reportedly spread anti-US propaganda which amplified calls for violence before and after the Capitol riot. One researcher said “The behaviour of the accounts was sophisticated and disciplined, and seemingly designed to avoid detection by Twitter’s counter-measures. He added that this raises an intriguing question about how the operators had learned what was and was not likely to ‘trip’ Twitter’s detection algorithms. Clearly -further investigation is needed. But one thing is certain — the Chinese have a vested interest is undermining our freedoms. They are exploiting our political divisions in order to destroy us from within.

Forget Joe Biden’s calls for unity. Members of Congress couldn’t be further divided. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Some House lawmakers are refusing to work with each other. Others are afraid to be in the same room. Two members almost got into a fist fight on the floor. And the speaker of the House is warning that “the enemy is within.” The friction is particularly intense in the House. According to Politico, multiple Democrats said they are considering cutting ties completely with Republican who objected to certifying the 2020 electors. Freshman Representative Cori Bush of Missouri tweeted that GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her staff “berated” her in a hallway and she now want to move her office – “for my team’s safety.” Republicans, meanwhile, are urging their Democratic colleagues to heed Biden’s calls for unity, arguing that demands to expel or blackball GOP lawmakers, along with the speedy impeachment of Trump, could poison the well for future bipartisanship.

A senate Democrat wants to strip the conservative group Turning Point USA – of its tax-exempt status for the most ridiculous reason! With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse wants to punish the conservative student organization because because it held large gatherings that he’s calling COVID super spreader events. In a letter to the head of the IRS, Whitehouse wrote: Turning Point USA’s reckless decision to host potential ‘superspreader’ events, in open violation of local COVID-19 regulations, put children and others at risk, and was clearly contrary to the public good. Senator Whitehouse was also the man behind the Obama IRS push to single out groups with conservative-sounding terms such as “patriot” and “Tea Party” in their titles when applying for tax-exempt benefits. This is just another attempt to cancel and silence the voices of conservatives. Oh – and Whitehouse added one more charge against Turning Point — it “has cultivated close ties to President Trump and the Trump family.”
