Smoke, Mirrors, and Teleprompters

  • Despite their best efforts to hide it, the truth is slowly emerging.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden constitute the single most liberal presidential ticket in American history.

There’s simply no getting around it—regardless of the flowery bipartisan language and surgically crafted rhetoric habitually force-fed to Senator Obama by his ubiquitous teleprompters. Forget about “hope” and “unity”. Obama/Biden believe in one thing and one thing alone—the ideology of far-left liberalism.

Thankfully enough, the American people have caught whiffs of the Obama/Biden leftist philosophy—and does it ever stink. In fact, it smells an awful lot like socialism. Consider Joe Biden’s recent statements regarding taxes he made in an interview last Thursday:

“We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle class people.”

And then, when the interviewer reminded him that wealthier Americans would have to pay more in taxes, Senator Biden replied:

“It’s time to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”

We can draw two separate conclusions from Senator Biden’s statements. First, if paying higher taxes is an act of patriotism, then lower class Americans paying fewer taxes—otherwise known as the people that Obama/Biden purport to represent—are not being patriotic. Surely Joe Biden would never suggest that working class people and the unemployed disdain their country, right?

The other conclusion, and the most likely one, is that in order to be a good American, one must forfeit their wealth and resources to the state. To be a good American, one must yield to the collective. To be a good American, one must sacrifice their wealth to the government.

Perhaps Joe Biden and Barack Obama have forgotten their history, but language like this is all too reminiscent of the collectivist Soviet mantra of decades gone by. “Be patriotic, comrade!” they declare. “Give to the motherland!”

Thomas Jefferson would disagree. As he once said:

“A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned – this is the sum of good government.”

America was founded on the spirit of rugged individualism, self-reliance, and free-market capitalism. Individuality is laced throughout American history and socialist rhetoric like Biden’s does not sit well with the American people.

And that is why they are trying to hide it. That is the reason for the smoke and mirrors—and Teleprompters.

Despite the Democratic Party’s tendency to veer to the left in their presidential and vice-presidential selections—i.e. Kerry/Edwards—the majority of Americans are, believe it or not, conservative. According to a Battleground Poll, 60 percent of Americans identify themselves as “very conservative” or “somewhat conservative.” According to a Rasmussen poll, 24 percent of Americans identify themselves as both fiscally and socially conservative. Meanwhile, only 9 percent of those surveyed claim to be both fiscally and socially liberal.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are well aware that if they were to be completely honest about their political views, they would be at odds with the American people. Covering it up is their only solution.

In the meantime, our leaders ought to be reminding the American people what real patriotism is. Real patriotism is working hard, getting a job, and doing well for ones’ self. Real patriotism is encouraging a society in which independence, freedom and hard work is valued and those who contribute to the economy and provide jobs are applauded. Real patriotism is building a supporting a family with the hard-earned fruits of one’s labor, and then having something to pass on to the next generation. Real patriotism is defending your country militarily if and when the time comes.

Unfortunately, Joe Biden doesn’t seem to value these things.
