Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) got it right when she walked back her open door to Obama’s Supreme Court nominee stating that she supports Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) position to not consider the nominee and let the people decide.

“In the midst of a presidential election and a consequential debate about the future of our country, I believe the American people deserve to have a voice in the direction of the court. I continue to believe the Senate should not move forward with the confirmation process until the people have spoken by electing a new president,” Ayotte clarified in a statement quoted by the New Hampshire Union Leader.

The people of New Hampshire have one of the most important roles in the presidential nominating process, and New Hampshirites should have their votes count in determining the direction of the Supreme Court for the next twenty years.

Nothing less than the Second Amendment is at risk, as Obama’s nominee has proven in his current judicial role to be a certain vote against the Heller decision overturning this landmark assertion that law-abiding citizens have an individual right to keep and bear arms. Can any thinking person after watching the current president’s constant barrage against guns and gun ownership honestly doubt that repealing Heller would be at the top of his nominee’s agenda?

Ayotte needs to hear from voters urging her to continue to stand firm with McConnell and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) in exercising the Senate’s Constitutional prerogative to not consider a Presidential appointment. It is time for Senators like Ayotte, to stop passing the buck and stand up for the American people by saying no to the bullies of the left who can never be assuaged.

The price of liberty is constant vigilance and for the people of New Hampshire this means having a steady stream of voices speaking to Senator Ayotte affirming her support for McConnell’s position to let the people decide in November the direction of the Court.

Hopefully this constitutional muscle building process will not only save the people from the destruction of our individual liberties, but will be the beginning of the end of the obscene practice of delegating legislative authority to bureaucrats at places like the EPA where they are destroying our nation’s electricity grid while Congress sits wringing their hands or even worse are complicit.

On this one, at least today, Senator Ayotte has it 100 percent right. Now it is up to her constituents to keep her there, and for her other Senate Republican colleagues to join her.
