A recent article in the Wall Street Journal says the recent rally on Wall Street show investors believe the fun is just getting started. Major U.S. stock indexes have set 32 record highs in 2021, including a recent surge by the Dow industrials average. Investors believe pent-up consumer demand could be a big part of the coming economic revival. As the U.S. moves past the pandemic, markets are saying Americans will spend on big-ticket items such as vacations and weddings, and companies will go on hiring sprees. The most optimistic investors believe the economy, just months after it was devastated by the pandemic, will bounce back in a manner akin to the Roaring ’20s. And then there’s this: the chairman of the federal reserve signaled he will not raise interest rates soon!

During the pandemic, police officers around the country say a rise in teenagers forcibly stealing occupied cars going for joy rides is the result of Covid lockdown’s social isolation, and disengagement. With Today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Police departments in cities around the country are also reporting a rise in carjackings, often committed by teens too young for their licenses. Law-enforcement officials blame the rise in part on virtual learning. They say for many children, the pandemic has led to anxiety and depression. D.C.’s Acting Police Chief Robert Contee said “When you have children who are not in school and that structure is not in place, I think it aligns perfectly with the increases in carjackings that we’ve seen in our city.” Police figures show that carjackings also jumped sharply last year in several other cities—by 301% in Minneapolis, 148% in New York City, 125% in Chicago, 80% in Philadelphia and 42% in Las Vegas. The governors of Texas and Mississippi both announced this week they would be lifting their states’ mask mandates and rolling back many of their Covid-19 health mandates. This is part of a growing movement across the country from lawmakers, governors, and citizens to curtail emergency orders that have robbed Americans of individual liberties and freedoms for nearly a year.

Renz’s grassroots group, Make Americans Free Again, seeks to put citizens back in charge. “We’re no one special. But that’s the greatness of America, you don’t have to be someone special to fight back.” He encourages activism at the local level, within your circle of friends and neighbors.

“Get people friends, family, two, three, five, 10 people, whatever you can get, get them together, have a meeting without masks, have a meeting openly, talk to each other. Pretend you’re human beings again. Once you start organizing and spreading the word, we’re looking at from there, we want you to start taking action steps.”

Renz said one of the easiest steps a group can take is part of the Small Business Rescue Program. “All the small businesses that are being crushed, get your group together and plan to go to a single restaurant or a single small business and spend some money there.”

President Biden and Senator Mitt Romney have both proposed expanding tax-credits that would send almost every parent $250 or more a month. With Today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Under Biden’s plan, families with two children would typically receive about $7,200 a year. Under Romney’s plan—$8,400. That’s less than the $12,000 per adult in universal basic income proposed by Andrew Yang, former Democratic presidential candidate. But it’s a lot of money to a lot of parents, regardless of whether they work and almost regardless of how much they earn. Both Biden’s and Romney’s proposals would pay the credit each month. The main aim of their proposals is to reduce child poverty, which is higher in the U.S. than in most advanced countries. Both would slash the number of children in poverty by around 3 million, or a third, according to the Niskanen Center. I question how we can ensure that money is actually benefitting children and not simply going to support a parent’s bad habits. For more check us out at the Daily Torch.com.

A senior advisor to Joe Biden says the coronavirus was “the best that ever happened” to Joe Biden, alluding to the impact of the pandemic on the voting public. With Today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. The remark appears in a new book: Lucky: How Joe Biden Barely Won the Presidency. It’s the first major book released on the 2020 presidential contest. The Guardian obtained a copy prior to publication. “It was, the authors add, a necessarily private comment that ‘campaign officials believed but would never say in public.’” Anita Dunn, co-chair of Biden’s transition team and interim press secretary, is quoted as saying: the rampant pandemic undermined then-President Donald Trump’s solid economic achievements. Sounds to me like Biden used the crisis and suffering of the public in the opportunistic pursuit of power. If Dunn’s name is familiar… you may remember her from a 2009,video clip where she expressed admiration for Chinese Communist mass-murderer Maozedong, calling him “one of my favorite political philosophers.”

A recent poll by Echelon Insights shows that Republicans are most concerned about solving big policy issue, while Democrat are focused almost solely on hating Republicans. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Echelon polled 1,005 registered voters and found that Republican voters are concerned about illegal immigration, lack of support for police, high taxes, left-wing media bias, the moral decline of the country, socialism, Antifa, China, late-term abortion, election fraud, tech censorship, and discrimination against Christians. Top concern for Democrat voters — no joke — Trump supporters. A full 82 percent of Democrats are extremely/very concerned with Trump supporters. So the thing freaking out the left more than anything else is the fact that … you and I exist, the fact that we Trump supporters share this country with them. It’s not Global Warming or world hunger.
