Joe Biden may have hit a low point in his presidency this week with his woefully ignorant remarks in pushing for a so-called election rights bill. With today’s Americans for Limited Government Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen.
“Today I am making it clear to protect our Democracy, I support changing the Senate rule, whichever way they need to be changed to prevent a minority of senators from blocking action on voting rights. When it comes to protecting majority rule in America, the majority should rule in the United States Senate.
The Senate, indeed our entire system of checks and balances, were specifically designed by the founding fathers to protect MINORITY rights – we have never been a pure democracy – that is what the founder’s feared most – mob rule. Mitch McConnell called the president’s remarks, incoherent, incorrect, and beneath his office.

Attorney General Merrick Garland told us the FBI’s investigation into the January 6th capitol breach would be the extensive investigation in agency’s history. Perhaps he misspoke and meant to say the most extensive coverup! With today’s Americans for limited government minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Check out this exchange in a senate hearing this week between Senator Ted Cruz and FBI executive Jill Sanborn:
“Did any FBI agents or confidential informants commit crimes of violence on January 6th?
“I can’t answer that, sir.”
“Did any FBI agents or FBI informants actively encourage and incite crimes of violence on January 6th?”
“Sir, I can’t answer that.”
And on and on with nearly every question the senator asked. By the end, Senator Tom Cotton asked if the FBI had even prepared for the hearing. It appears the only thing the FBI is prepared for is stonewalling and obfuscating the truth.

The Supreme Court’s three liberal justices made a series of head-shaking comments during last week’s oral arguments over two Biden’s vax mandates. With today’s Americans for Limited Government Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen.
The trio of Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor made claims during oral arguments that could have been classified as incorrect, ignorant, misinformed or hysterically exaggerated. Check out this whopper from Justice Sonya Sotomayor:
“We have over 100,000 children, which we’ve never had before, in serious condition and many on ventilators.”
According to the CDC only about 3-thousand children are currently in the hospital because of COVID.
When Breyer weighed in, he suggested the OSHA rule was needed because “hospitals are full almost to the point of maximum” and that “750 million new cases” had been reported in the US yesterday — despite the fact that the population of America is around 330 million.
In addition, information from HHS shows that nearly 21 percent of inpatient beds and more than 18 percent of ICU beds nationwide were unoccupied as of Friday.

In last Friday’s Supreme Court hearing over the constitutionality of President Biden’s OSHA vaccine mandates for employers with over one-hundred workers and healthcare workers, Chief Justice John Roberts appeared to mock Biden’s solicitor general when she claimed Congress gave the federal government authority for the vax mandates when it created OSHA in 1970.
“That was 50 years ago that you’re saying that Congress acted. I don’t think it had COVID in mind. That was almost closer to the Spanish flu than it is to today’s problem. I understand the idea that agencies are more expert than Congress. I understand that they can move more quickly than Congress, but this is something that the federal government has never done before, right, mandated vaccine coverage?”
From our perspective, the federal government has no business determining who can work based on their vax status.

The new Capitol Police Chief testified in a Senate hearing this week that next time his men and women are tested – they’ll be better prepared. With today’s Americans for Limited Government Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. New Chief Thomas Manger is focused on improving intelligence gathering and manpower. He told senators that it’s not a matter of if, but when Congress is tested again.
“But what will be different is that we will be paying much more attention to the information that we gather ahead of time. We will be putting together a better plan. We will be getting the help that we need pre-planned, here, on campus, before we need it. Not making panicked calls later on.”
During the Capitol breach last year, many officers were left to fend off the pro-Trump activists without helmets, face shields and gas masks that would have better protected them in the melee. The Senate’s twenty-twenty-two appropriations bill would provide the department with $606.6 million, a $91 million increase over the current fiscal year.
