Politico has a shocking report that in 2018 the Secret Service may have inappropriately inserted itself into a bizarre Hunter Biden gun incident which could involve a felony crime by the president’s son. With Today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Hunter’s sister-in-law took his gun and threw it in a grocery store trash can. Secret Service agents asked the owner of the gun store where Hunter bought the gun for the paperwork involving the sale. The gun store owner said no, suspecting that the Secret Service officers wanted to hide Hunter’s ownership of the missing gun. Any involvement by the Secret Service on behalf of the Biden family would be inappropriate interference in an incident that was already being investigated by Delaware State Police and the FBI. Hunter claimed on his background check that he was not an unlawful drug user, when in fact, five years earlier he the Navy Reserve discharged him after he tested positive for cocaine. Lying on a firearms background check form is a felony.

The Democrat’s election rigging bill – H.R. 1 – would destroy honest elections. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. American democracy is already suffering from a credibility crisis. The 2020 election was marred by confusion, haphazard changes to voting laws, and a progressive legal blitz that used courts to undemocratically weaken voting safeguards and skew the rules for partisan advantage. With millions of voters harboring doubts about the legitimacy of the last election and Congressman Tom McClintock of California rightly asked why anyone wants to make that the model?

“Even if it doesn’t rob our elections of their actual legitimacy is certainly robs them of their perceived legitimacy, destroying the trust that the loser of any election must have to accept the winner was rightful. That’s the bitter legacy of the last election under these practices. Why would anyone want to institutionalize them.”

The distrust so many Americans still feel could quickly harden into apathy and disengagement, further widening our partisan divide.

President Biden is now conceding that a tax increase is coming to pay for all of his new spending. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. Initially Biden said it would only apply to those making over 4-hundred thousand dollars a year. Here’s what he told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos this week:

“Anybody making more than $400,000 will see a small to a significant tax increases. If you make less than $400,000, you won’t see one single penny in additional federal tax.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki later conceded that the $400,000 threshold was for “families,” not individuals. So if you’re a two-income household making $200,000 each, you could get whacked.

Former Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes says the Democrat’s tax grab won’t stop with the wealthy.

“Big tax increases convoluting the code and hurting economic growth. All this happy talk about ‘great economy ahead,’ I take it with a grain of salt, you might say.”

The middle class is where the real money is, and sooner or later they’re coming after you.

The Biden team is trying to make America believe there is only a “challenge” at the border. But the facts speak for themselves. Thousands of migrants are crossing daily and recently leaked photos show deplorable conditions at a facility in Donna, Texas.

The filibuster is just one of 44 standing rules in the Senate. Each is designed to enhance the rights of the individual senators, at the expense of the majority. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen.

Senator Mitch McConnell said if Democrats remove the filibuster rule, it may lead to a scorched earth policy when Republicans regain the majority. He says conservatives wouldn’t just erase every liberal change that hurt the country, they would pass conservative policies with zero input from the other side.

McConnell said, “How about this, nationwide right to work, or working America defunding Planned Parenthood and sanctuary cities on day one, a whole new era of domestic energy production, sweeping new protections for conscience, and the right to life of the unborn.”

The filibuster isn’t the problem. The Senate isn’t broken. All that’s really standing in the way of good legislation is a Democratic majority unwilling to compromise on any aspect of their radical agenda.

In the midst of an ongoing crisis at our Southern border, House Democrats passed two mass amnesty bills. With today’s ALG Minute, I’m Catherine Mortensen. H.R. 6 would provide green cards and a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants, including violent gang members. This irresponsible legislation will only encourage more illegal immigration and worsen the crisis. The Democrats priorities are clear, they don’t want you to have a family barbeque, but they will allow COVID-19 positive migrants into the interior of our country.

Joe Biden’s policies have directly led to this crisis. Moving forward, we must immediately halt catch and release, resume construction of our Southern border wall, and reinstitute the remain-in-Mexico policy.
